The rest of the stuff like careers, love life etc. is what gets in the way -- not the other way around. Imagine what the world would be like if more people not only had children but took the time to engage heir children like the parents of Thomas Edison, John Stuart Mill, Bill Gates, etc.larry macdonaldhttp://blog.canadianbusiness.com/category/larry-macdonald/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433839636644874439.post-73331504593104028252009-08-21T15:06:44.195+00:002009-08-21T15:06:44.195+00:00Hi Caitlin, Must have had my head in the sand beca...Hi Caitlin, Must have had my head in the sand because I never thought about having kids vs not having them as a political or individual respect issue, though maybe some now do.

Naw, I don't think people will ever entirely stop having kids. Yet, it only takes a shift below the 2.1 kids per couple replacement rate to start population decline and most developed countries are definitely below that level now.CanadianInvestorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05645767559302303541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433839636644874439.post-60809940983213660862009-08-21T14:19:35.260+00:002009-08-21T14:19:35.260+00:00...

If everyone thought nothing mattered in life besides money and their career and put all their energy into that, in one generation our entire species would cease to exist. And when they are old will they pay to have someone care for them with all the wads of dough they've accumulated over the years by doing nothing but work? And what will they leave behind when they die? Their accomplishments at their corporation? Even if they're so daft as to think that it's all about survival of the fittest, do they realize their whole gene pool will die off with themselves?Pharmadaddyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14957679340193335796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433839636644874439.post-57821874001599840622009-08-19T18:39:49.096+00:002009-08-19T18:39:49.096+00:00Great post. However, a lot of the reasons that Maclean's listed are just rubbish.

Even if we didn't have children, I would want everyone else to. After all, they are the future tax payers who are going to fund our health care and OAS.Canadian Capitalisthttp://www.canadiancapitalist.comnoreply@blogger.com
